Some major things have been going on, but uni’s been so much lately that I’ve hardly had time to even check my email. But uni’s over for the semester, so here’s what’s been happening in my life lately:

I’ve finished my thesis proposal. It’s in the process of being approved by the ethics committee (shouldn’t be a problem there), then from next February, I’ll be doing my research and writing. My topic is the state of the Australian Fourth Estate, and I’ll be using the Mohamed Haneef situation as a case study.

The news site 3rd Degree has finished for the semester, with one of my own articles featuring on the front page for the next three months until next semester’s journalism students take up the reigns.

At the conclusion of 2007’s 3rd Degree, some awards were handed out amongst the 50 or so students writing for the news site. I received awards for “Best ‘Tunes’ article”, “Best ‘About ECU’ article”, “Best teamwork in the spelling/grammar subbing team” and “Excellent writing style”. I was pretty pleased.

I headed down to Albany last weekend to do a restaurant review for Perth mag Menu Magazine. The food at Tanglehead Brewery was fantastic so it wasn’t a hard review to do – and the fact that I’m plugging them here is testament to how good they were.

I’ve also just started doing reviews for Perth Blues Club. I interviewed Chicago bluesman Jody Williams last week, and man, did he have some stories to tell. I’ve since been asked to think about sitting him down, gleaning all his stories, and writing a book about him – but if this happens it won’t be until next year.

There’s some other events in the pipeline so I’ll be keeping this updated. But for the next week, I’m taking a trip to Malaysia to celebrate finishing my Grad Dip.
